1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 bottle dry red wine, such as Spanish Rioja
1/2 cup Spanish brandy
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup triple sec
1 lemon, sliced
1 orange, sliced

2. Combine 1/2 cup of the syrup (or more to taste) with the wine, brandy, lemon juice, orange juice and triple sec in a large pitcher.
3. Add the fruit slices and stir.
4. Serve right away with a splash of ginger ale in each glass, or better, refrigerate overnight to let the flavors blend.
Make Ahead:
The simple syrup keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to a month.
