Chicken, Apple, and Sweet Potato Purée
Chicken, Apple, and Sweet Potato Purée
Ingredients:
1 large apple, cored and peeled
1 medium sweet potato, peeled
½ cup diced cooked chicken breast
Directions:
1. Cut the apple and sweet potato into ½-inch cubes.
2. Fill a medium saucepan with about 1 inch of water, and bring to a simmer. Place the
sweet potato in a steamer basket, set it over the simmering water, cover, and cook for
about 5 minutes.
3. Add the apple and steam for 5 minutes more, or until both are tender. Allow to cool.
4. In a blender or food processor, purée the cooled sweet potato and apple and the
chicken until the desired consistency is reached. Add water if necessary.
STORAGE: Leftover purée can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3
days or frozen for up to 3 months.
Chicken, Peas, and Banana Purée
MAKES 4 SERVINGS, ¼ CUP EACH
PREP TIME: 5 MINUTES • COOK TIME: 5 MINUTES
Perfect for any baby with a sweet tooth—which means just about every baby—this recipe
blends the mildest of all meats, veggies, and fruits into one mega-mellow mash. When
baby is ready to try feeding himself, try serving a few bites of each of these foods on his
high chair tray without puréeing; they all make great first finger foods.
Variation: Thanks to the creamy sweetness of the bananas, you can easily replace the
peas in this recipe with a more bitter-tasting green veggie such as kale, collard greens, or
Swiss chard. Any of these will give the purée a thinner, grittier consistency.
