8 slices bacon, cut in half

Directions:
2Place a small piece of cheese into each date.
3Wrap1⁄ slice bacon around each cheese-stuffed date.

4Place prepared dates onto baking sheet.
5Bake on grill for 12 to 15 minutes, or until bacon begins to crisp.
Variation: Finish the dates over direct heat for a more rustic effect. You can
also go in the other direction and bake the suckers in the oven.
Dates don’t have a long history with barbecue, given that they’re
grown primarily in the Middle East, but Paul Kirk is the Baron of
Barbecue, and that counts for something. A fruit of the date palm,
dates are eaten just as they are, dried, or made into vinegar, wine,
paste, or syrup. The flowers of the date palm are edible, and even
the leaves are cooked and eaten.
