Baked Icing
Baked Icing
Ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 to 3 tablespoons milk
Directions:
1. To make the pecan streusel, combine the chopped pecans, brown sugar, and
flour in a medium bowl. Stir the ingredients to blend them, then, using a fork to
keep the mixture like crumbs, stir in the melted butter. Mix to make sure all the
dry ingredients are moistened.
2. To make the filling for the baked apples, in a small bowl, combine the sugar,
bread crumbs, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
3. To make the dumplings, preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly grease a baking
sheet.
4. Roll out each sheet of puff pastry to measure 12 by 12 inches. Cut each square
into quarters, so you have a total of eight 6-inch squares.
5. Brush each square with some of the beaten egg.
6. Put a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each piece of pastry. Lay half an
apple, core side down, on top of the filling.
7. Top with another tablespoon of the filling, then pull up the corners of the
pastry and pinch the sides together to seal the seams over the apple.
8. Brush the top of each dumpling with the beaten egg.
9. Lay the dumplings on the prepared baking sheet and top each one with some of
the pecan streusel.
10. Bake in the hot oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F and bake
for another 25 minutes, or until the tops are lightly browned.
11. While the pastries are baking, make the icing: Combine the powdered sugar
and vanilla extract. Stir in just enough of the milk so that it can be drizzled from
the tip of a spoon.
12. Remove the dumplings from the oven and let them cool at room temperature.
13. Drizzle some of the icing over each dumpling before serving.
