Three-Month Toothpaste Supply

Three-Month Toothpaste Supply

Ingredients:
½ cup bentonite clay
⅛ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
⅔ cup water
¼ cup coconut oil
1 teaspoon stevia (optional)
1–4 drops peppermint essential oil
Mix the clay and salt in a bowl. Add the water. Mix well. Add
the rest of ingredients. Mix well again until it forms a paste.
Store it in a jar with a lid. Every time you go to use it, spoon
some onto your toothbrush. Dampen the paste by putting your
brush under some gently running water. Brush as usual.
Tooth Whiteners
Bleaching our teeth white is not cool. We are putting so many
harmful chemicals on our teeth and in our mouths that seep
through to the gums, tongue, and rest of the body that it is
scary. Plus whitening your teeth can cost you hundreds of
dollars or more. I tried bleaching my teeth once before I knew
about the natural alternatives, and it really hurt my teeth and
gums. It was not worth me going through that pain.
Now I use baking soda and bentonite clay to whiten my teeth
periodically. Both substances are naturally provided by Earth
112
and have health benefits. I alternate between the two, as the
baking soda can be abrasive on my teeth and gums. If I start
to feel even a tiny sting, I switch to bentonite clay.
BAKING SODA: Keep a jar full of it in your bathroom.
Spoon ½ teaspoon onto your toothbrush after brushing your
teeth. Brush in gentle circular motions, buffing your teeth as
if you were going through a car wash. You may want to do
this every day for 14 days until your teeth are whiter. Once
your teeth are white, stop brushing them with baking soda for
a while, until you feel like doing another polish.
BENTONITE CLAY: Keep a jar full of it in your bathroom.
Spoon ½ teaspoon of it onto your toothbrush after brushing
your teeth. Brush in a gentle circular motion on your teeth,
just like you do with the baking soda. Do it for a few minutes
until you feel like everything is squeaky clean.
TRY THIS RECIPE:
2 tablespoons of baking soda
2 tablespoons of bentonite clay
Mix them together and store in your bathroom. Put ½
teaspoon on your toothbrush and use it to scrub your teeth.
This yields 4 tablespoons of powder, enough for 12 days if
you’re using ½ teaspoon twice a day.
Breath Fresheners
Conventional gum is made with chemical ingredients, like
aspartame, that are linked to cancer and schizophrenia. No
113
thanks! Instead, use a simple, natural alternative. Most of
these are less expensive than purchasing gum.
CHEW ON: Ginger slices or a few leaves of parsley, mint, or
cilantro. Grow your own. Chew on two leaves of parsley, for
instance, before leaving for work in the morning or on your
way out the door!
EAT: An apple or avocado.
BRUSH AND GARGLE WITH: Lemon water (rinse
thoroughly afterward so as not to strip your tooth enamel),
baking soda, or bentonite clay.
Deodorant
Stay away from deodorants that contain aluminum. Heavy
metals clog the pores and stop sweat from coming out. It is
natural for the armpit to perspire toxins, so do not clog it up.
Instead:
CUT: A lemon in half and wipe it under your armpits.
PAT: Your armpits with a little bit of baking soda (about a
teaspoonful).
FIND: An organic deodorant that uses gentle, plant-based
ingredients.
Perfumes
Use small amounts of essential oils as perfume. Read the
labels on the oils first, however, to make sure they can be put
114
directly on the skin. Some great-smelling oils are lavender
and rose. A few simple drops of lemon juice can also have
you smelling fresh! And you could even add a few drops of
pure vanilla extract to your wrists for a vanilla scent.
Stay away from fragrances that are made up of synthetic
perfume components. Most commercial scents contain
phthalates, which interfere with hormone function and create
toxic buildup in the body, thus weakening the immune system
and clogging the lymphatic system.

Moisturizer
116
Use extra-virgin coconut oil, extra-virgin olive oil, avocado
oil, flaxseed oil, aloe vera (the flesh from inside an aloe leaf,
or organic aloe vera gel or liquid), or cacao butter. Smooth it
onto your skin and rub in.
Here is a recipe for a lush body and face moisturizer.
3 tablespoons of aloe vera
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
3–5 drops of essential oil like lavender, mint, or orange
(optional)
Mix together in a bowl and then store in a glass jar or tube.
Keep at room temperature or in the fridge. Will last for 3
months. This will yield just under ⅓ cup of face moisturizer.
Apply daily or whenever you feel you have dry skin.
Dry Body Brushing
Use a dry body brush once daily, stroking it in a circular
motion, to remove dead skin cells and toxins. Dry brush with
a natural-bristled brush. These can be purchased at most
health-food stores or on the Earth Diet website. Dry brushing
stimulates the body’s circulation and lymphatic systems.
Many naturopathic doctors use dry brushing to help with
bloating because massaging the lymph nodes helps the body
shed excess toxins and water as well as improving digestion.

Sunscreen
1 cup coconut oil or avocado oil
½ cup water
½ cup zinc oxide (zincite)
½ cup beeswax
Mix together in a bowl and store in a tube or glass jar. Keep
at room temperature. Zincite has UV protection properties,
with this sunscreen having SPF 20. The recipe will yield
around 2 ½ cups of sunscreen.

TIPS:
1. You can add vanilla extract or other herbs and oils as you
desire.
2. If you want to make a completely vegan sunscreen, you
can make it without the beeswax, just add an additional ½
cup of oil or shea butter.
3. You could also use straight raspberry seed oil for the
highest SPF of about 30–50, carrot seed oil for SPF 30, or
sesame seed oil and hemp oil for SPF 4–10, instead of
using a recipe.
4. For a higher SPF, you can use hemp oil in this recipe
instead of coconut and avocado oil.
5. You can purchase pure zinc oxide from Amazon.com.
Use organic, plant-based, vegan, animal cruelty-free
cosmetics. Here are some recipes.
Mascara
Mascara dates back to ancient Egypt. Most formulas contain
the same basic elements: pigmentation, oils, and waxes. But
conventional mascaras contain harmful toxic ingredients. You
can make your own with ingredients from your local
health-food store. The recipe that follows yields just under 2
ounces of mascara.
