Irish Brown Soda Bread

Ingredients:
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
wheat germ, crude
oats
sugars, brown
leavening agents, baking soda
salt, table
butter, without salt
milk, buttermilk, fluid, cultured, lowfat

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Butter or spray a 9x5x3 loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the first seven ingredients (dry ingredients).
With two butter knives or a pastry blender, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles crumbs.
Stir in buttermilk until it forms a soft dough.
With a wooden spoon or spatula, transfer the dough to the prepared loaf pan.
Bake until bread is dark brown and a tester inserted into the center comes out clean, about 40 minutes.
Turn out onto a cooling rack.
Turn right side up to cool.
Delicious with honey butter or jam!
Try it toasted, too!
