Colonial Brown Bread
Ingredients:
milk, buttermilk, fluid, cultured, lowfat
sugars, brown
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
leavening agents, baking soda
salt, table
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F Grease 2 loaf pans, 9x5".
Whisk buttermilk and sugar until sugar is dissolved.
In another bowl, whisk both flours with baking soda and salt.
Pour buttermilk over the dry ingredients and stir together until there are no visible streaks of dry flour.
Divide batter between prepared pans.
Bake 1 hour in preheated oven, or until a knife comes out clean.
Serve warm.
Store leftovers tightly wrapped in plastic in the refrigerator; it reheats nicely and makes great toast.
