Irish Brown Soda Bread
Ingredients:
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
oats
leavening agents, baking soda
salt, table
milk, fluid, 1% fat, without added vitamin a and vitamin d
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Form a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and add buttermilk (or substitute).
Stir mixture, slowly incorporating more flour mixture until a dough is formed.
Knead in the bowl briefly until a ball is formed (15 seconds should do it).
Divide dough in half and roll into 2 round balls.
Place balls on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Using a sharp knife, scour an X into the top of each loaf.
Bake for about 2025 minutes, until loaves are golden brown.
Slice into slices or quarters prior to serving.
