Bran Date Bread
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups sifted unbleached flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup active sourdough starter
3/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 cup finely chopped pitted dates
1 cup all-bran cereal
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel (zest only)
2 large eggs, beaten
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together. Dust dates with 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture, then add to the bowl. Add the brown sugar, all-bran, and grated lemon peel. Combine 3/4 cup buttermilk, 2 beaten eggs, and 1/4 cup vegetable oil. Add all at once to the flour mixture with the sourdough starter, stirring until well moistened. Pour into a greased or wax paper-lined 9x5-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350
