Woody's Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
salt, table
leavening agents, baking soda
butter, without salt
milk, buttermilk, fluid, cultured, lowfat
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients together.
Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until it resembles coarse meal.
Stir in buttermilk untill all ingredients are wet.
Turn onto floured surface, then knead the dough a few times until it's 1/2 inch thick.
Cut into 2 inch rounds & place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Lightly brush tops of biscuits with milk.
Bake in a preheated oven set to 425 for 12-15 minutes, or until tops are golden.
Makes about 10-14 biscuits (depending how thick you like yours!)
Note: It's VERY important to sift the dry ingredients.
I tried making this without sifting, & learned it's worth the extra step!
