Garlic Fry Bread
Ingredients:
oil, olive, salad or cooking
wheat flour, white, all-purpose, unenriched
leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
spices, garlic powder
parsley, fresh
spices, pepper, red or cayenne
water, bottled, generic
milk, fluid, 1% fat, without added vitamin a and vitamin d
Directions:
Heat the oil in a heavy pan to 375 F.
Mix the flour, baking powder, garlic salt, parsley flakes, and red pepper flakes in a large mixing bowl.
Add the water and milk and mix to make a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a floured counter top.
Knead, using more flour as necessary, until the dough is smooth and holds together.
Divide the dough into 6 pieces and shape each into a 5 or 6 inch round with a small hole in the center.
Carefully place one of the dough rounds into the hot oil.
Cook for two or three minutes, until golden on the bottom, then flip and cook until golden on the other side as well, about 5 to 6 minutes total cooking time.
Remove the cooked bread using a spatula or kitchen spider.
Drain on paper towels before serving.
Repeat frying the rest.
